Greetings From Epiphany!

Dear Friends,

Wow! Epiphany’s inaugural “Soirée” was a HUGE success, and that is thanks to you. I really appreciate all the work that went into the evening. The joy there at WGBH was palpable. Looking around, I saw people from all walks of life drawn together in a common commitment to support our wonderful, hardworking children. I also saw friendships extending back decades as well as many new friends, and here is a short recap video of the event in case you weren’t able to join us. We hope to see you next year!

Again and again, thank you for ALL you do to make Epiphany possible!

The Rev. John H. Finley IV

Partner Spotlight

Beacon Bank

In February, Brookline Bank, a longtime friend of Epiphany, merged with Berkshire Bank, BankRI, and PCSB Bank to form Beacon Bank; they are now serving customers in five states with over 145 branches! For years, Brookline Bank was outstanding in their support of our galas, and this year, Beacon Bank stepped up to sponsor for our inaugural “Soiree.” Thanks to friends like them, the party was a financial success as well as an over-the-top night of joy for the school. We are deeply grateful to all of the sponsors, donors, and attendees who made that possible, and none more so than Beacon Bank. Please join us in saying a hearty THANK YOU to everyone at the bank for being such outstanding partners

Graduate Support Spotlight

Isabella Lacroix ‘23

Since graduating from Epiphany in 2023, Isabella Lacroix has continued to grow into a student who leads with courage, openness, and determination. Now attending Concord Academy, Isabella took some time to adjust to boarding school,  but over time, she found her footing and is now thriving.

Isabella has always been someone willing to try new things. During her time at Epiphany, she was active in the garden, even working there for a summer, participated in theater, and consistently showed a readiness to step into new experiences. Today, she excels in volleyball and also takes part in The Academy, a partnership between Boston College and Pine Manor College that includes a residential Summer Enrichment Program and academic-year mentoring.

Despite being away at boarding school, Isabella’s connection to Epiphany remains strong. Whenever she is home on break, she makes a point to stop by the Graduate Support Center to check in and share updates on her latest accomplishments. Her story reflects both resilience and possibility, and her journey is a beautiful example of what can happen when a student remains open to growth, pushes through challenges, and keeps saying yes to new opportunities. She was also recently featured in a Concord Academy article, which reflects the leadership, growth, and sense of purpose that have continued to shape her journey. Check out that article here.

Learning is Cool: Epiphany Curriculum Highlights

Green Club in Bloom, Even in the Colder Months

During the fall, Green Club students explored herbalism and food preservation, gaining hands-on experience while learning about the traditions and history connected to their work. Community elder, Ms. Elnora, taught students how to make jams, and students also studied Black herbalists such as Doctor Caesar and Harriet Tubman, whose lives helped inspire the group’s projects.  Students then brought that learning to life by creating and selling products such as hot sauce, jam, salves, elderberry syrup, cookies, and smoothies. Beyond the products themselves, the experience gave students the chance to build confidence, practice teamwork, and take pride in sharing something they had made. Green Club continues to be a beautiful example of how learning at Epiphany can be hands-on, meaningful, and deeply empowering. You can read more about The Green Club and other garden highlights in the garden newsletter here.

Hands-on Learning with an Entrepreneurial Twist

Under the guidance of Lead Mathematics Teacher, Troy Harvey, the entire 8th grade collaborated on a hands-on project centered on creating and selling juice shots for staff. Students worked together to develop recipes, carefully testing ingredient proportions to ensure consistency and quality. They also calculated costs and pricing, using math skills to think through what it would take to make their product profitable.

The project extended beyond the kitchen. Students designed promotional posters and explored a business model using linear equations to understand revenue, expenses, and profit better. By combining creativity, teamwork, and real-world problem-solving, the juice shot project gave students a meaningful opportunity to see how classroom learning comes to life in practical and engaging ways.

Black History Comes to Life Through Competition and Performance

During Black History Month, Epiphany students took part in a lively schoolwide event that brought together competition, creativity, and cultural celebration. Through grade-based team challenges, music, and performances, students explored Black history, Black culture, and Black heritage in a way that felt active, joyful, and deeply engaging.

A special part of the program featured a drumming performance by Troupe Falima, which included Aidid Brayboy ’07. The performance energized the room and invited audience participation, adding another layer of connection and celebration to the day.  (Not only is Mr. Brayboy an Epiphany graduate and a musician, he also teachers here!)

The event also featured student musicians who performed Footprints by Wayne Shorter after working with Matt from the New England Conservatory, who teaches students how to play a range of instruments, including the xylophone. Adding to the creativity of the program, 5th and 6th-grade students wrote and performed their own science fiction play that traveled through moments in history. The day ended on a high note with the 6th-grade class winning the competition for the second year in a row!

ELC Corner: Celebrating and Reconnecting with Our Graduate Families

At Epiphany’s Early Learning Center, the connection with families does not end at graduation. As with the Middle School, Epiphany is for life.  To support that, in February, the ELC welcomed graduate families back for a special gathering centered on connection, support, and joy. The event allowed families to reconnect while also reintroducing them to the resources and support Epiphany continues to offer.

With many families in attendance, the afternoon was filled with meaningful moments. Children played together, parents caught up and shared their experiences, and many of the children ran eagerly to greet their former teachers. More than just a fun afternoon, the gathering served as a joyful reminder that graduate families remain a valued part of the Epiphany.

This event reflects a core part of Epiphany’s mission: building lasting relationships rooted in care and connection. By welcoming graduate families back, the ELC continues to show its commitment to supporting children and families well beyond their earliest years at the school.

Big Confidence from Our Littlest Learners

Right before February break, Epiphany’s Early Learning Center hosted its first Pre-K Show & Tell, and the event was a wonderful success. In front of a large audience of families and fellow students, the children bravely spoke out with confidence about what they’d brought in. It was a joyful moment for the school community and a lovely reminder of how our youngest learners can shine.

Epiphany News

Student Voice, Reflection, and Public Speaking at Weekly Eucharist

Each Wednesday, Epiphany’s schoolwide Eucharist creates space for reflection and active participation. Students across grade levels help shape the experience in meaningful ways. Eighth graders write and deliver their own sermons; seventh graders select and share readings from cultures around the world; sixth graders write original prayers, and the fifth graders serve as acolytes. In doing so, students not only engage thoughtfully with their spiritual lives but also build confidence in public speaking with help from Epiphany star, Peter Keating. This weekly tradition reflects Epiphany’s commitment to nurturing each student’s faith.  We never tell them what to think, but we do expect them to be articulate about their beliefs.

A Meaningful Graduation Trip for the 8th Grade

As part of their end-of-year graduation experience, Epiphany’s 8th graders traveled to Atlanta and Alabama for a trip that combined learning and reflection. Throughout the week, students visited important historical and cultural sites, including the Legacy Museum, the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, and the city of Selma, to engage deeply with the history of the Civil Rights Movement and the lasting impacts of that legacy.

The trip also included visits to Morehouse College, Spelman College, and Clark Atlanta University, inviting our students opportunities to reflect on their own educational trajectories. Alongside these visits were shared meals, special activities, and time together that made the trip especially meaningful as the class prepares to graduate.

A Reimagined Soirée Rooted in Connection and Impact

This year’s Epiphany Soirée transformed the traditional sit-down gala into a more interactive and self-directed experience. Designed to support connection, curiosity, and community, the event invited guests to move through the space, engage with interactive learning stations, and learn about Epiphany in personal and hands-on ways.

One of the most powerful moments came through a special video, which included surprise messages for folk at school reflecting on the impact they had made in the lives of their students and their families. It was an evening filled with joy and a beautiful reminder that the work of Epiphany reaches far beyond a single moment, creating lasting ripples of support, connection, and hope. You can watch a recap video linked here.
